50k cases; hits new peak of 3600 cases in a day
India went past two
grim Covid-19 milestones on Wednesday – crossing the 50,000 mark overall and
breaching the 3,000-figure in its daily tally for the first time. With 3,602
new patients – the biggest in a day since the outbreak of the pandemic - the
total number of positive cases in the country rose to 52,935. The number of
active Covid-19 cases are growing faster at 6.6% now, leading to a shorter
doubling time of 11 days, as compared to 15 days on May 2 when the growth rate
for such cases was 4.8%, analysis by economist Shamika Ravi, earlier part of
the PM’s Economic Advisory Council, shows. "If containment,
contact-tracing is poor, active cases will keep rising," she said.
Israel's ambassador to India:'Of course, we will

Israel's ambassador to
India Ron Malka on Wednesday said that his country is in an advanced stage of a
breakthrough on developing an antibody to the novel coronavirus and is awaiting
results of clinical trials. "...Yes, of course, we will share it with the
world," Malka said adding that it was "too early to know if it is
ready for mass development."
Zomato targets push
into alcohol deliveries: Report
Food delivery company
Zomato aims to branch out into delivering alcohol, as per media reports, as it
seeks to cash in on high demand for booze during the coronavirus lockdown.
Zomato has already diversified into grocery deliveries as the restrictions on
movement shuttered some restaurants and people hesitated to order outside food
due to fear of infection.
Govt extends last date
for filing annual GST return for FY19 till Sept
The government has
extended the last date for filing annual GST return for the financial year
2018-19 by three months till September 2020. In another trade-friendly move,
the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has also extended the
validity of e-way bills that were generated on or before March 24 and had
expiry between March 20 and April 15, 2020.
NIAB develops portable
coronavirus detection kit
National
Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) have developed a portable device ‘eCovSens’,
a biosensor that can detect the coronavirus in saliva samples.The device gives
results within 30 seconds using just 20 micro-litres of the sample.The device
consists of a carbon electrode and coronavirus antibody.
India
to send nearly 1,000 tonnes of paracetamol raw material to Europe
India
will supply Europe with about 1,000 tonnes of the active pharmaceutical
ingredient for common pain reliever paracetamol, a top exports body said,
easing export controls on over-the counter medicines used to cope with Covid-19
symptoms. The Indian government in March put a hold on exports of several drugs
including paracetamol.

Co-operative Bank Ltd., Mumbai, to carry on banking business, with effect from
April 30, 2020. The financial position of the bank is highly adverse and
unsustainable. It was not Meeting the requirement of minimum capital and
reserves of the RBI.
Indian Railways start Shramik Special Trains to move migrant
workers, pilgrims, tourists, students, and other persons stranded at different
places due to lock down. These special trains will be run from point to point
on the request of both the concerned State Governments.
