PM Modi on Thursday
shared a finance ministry tweet to highlight steps taken by his government to
help the "most vulnerable" sections of society during the
coronavirus-induced lockdown. The ministry said more than 33 crore poor people
received financial assistance of Rs 31,235 crore till April 22 under the
Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package.

recession for first time in 40 years: Axis Bank
A report by Axis Bank
has said that India would go into recession in FY21 – the first time in 40
years because of the lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The report has
forecast that the gross domestic product will decline by 1.7% led mainly by a
steep contraction in manufacturing, and trade transport and communication.
China to give WHO $30
million more after US freezes funds
China announced
Thursday it will give another $30 million to the WHO to help in the global
fight against the coronavirus pandemic, days after Washington said it would
freeze funding. The US, which is the WHO's biggest contributor, has accused the
organisation of "mismanaging" the COVID-19 crisis, drawing fire from
Beijing as both countries spar over the virus.
