PM holds meetings to firm up second stimulus for reviving
economy
PM Modi on Saturday held a series of meetings with key cabinet
ministers and officials of economic ministries to firm up the second stimulus
package to lift the economy reeling under the impact of coronavirus-induced
lockdown. Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, senior officials, including those from
the PMO and Cabinet secretariat, were present at the meetings.
India clocks 75,000 Covid-19 tests per day, crosses 1-million
mark
India crossed 1 million Covid-19 tests, clocking over 75,000
tests per day with 419 laboratories at work across the country. 40 days of
lockdown has seen the government push 14 institutions like AIIMS, PGI
Chandigarh, CMC Vellore, JIPMER Puducherry, SGPIMS Lucknow, AIIMS Bhubaneshwar,
etc to assist and train these medical colleges/ labs/ hospitals in carrying out
tests. The nationwide tally of confirmed
Covid-19 cases crossed 37,700 on Saturday with a record 2,411 new cases getting
detected in the last 24 hours, but recoveries from the deadly virus infection
also crossed 10,000, while efforts to revive economic activities appeared
getting stepped up. At least 1,233 people have died due to Covid-19 so far
across the country.
'Barber shops, sale of non-essentials by e-commerce allowed'
The ministry of home affairs on Saturday clarified that barber
shops and salons will be allowed to open in green and orange zones during the
third phase of the lockdown beginning May 4, besides sale of non-essential
items by e-commerce platforms. The MHA on Friday, while extending the lockdown
for 2 more weeks till May 17, lifted many restrictions in green and orange
zones.

Covid-19: 135 men from single CRPF battalion in Delhi test

As many as 135 personnel of CRPF’s 31st battalion based at Mayur
Vihar have tested positive for Covid-19 so far, though test results of 22 more
are awaited. The swabs of all personnel based at the battalion’s Mayur Vihar
facility were subjected to testing following the death of a sub-inspector and
46 other personnel having tested positive.
North Korea's Kim Jong-un appears in public amid health rumors
North Korean state media says leader Kim Jong-un has made his
first public appearance in 20 days amid rumours about his health. Korean
Central News Agency said that he attended a ceremony marking the completion of
a fertilizer factory near the capital of Pyongyang with other senior officials
and his sister, Kim Yo Jong. Photos weren't immediately released.
RBI Extends Regulatory Benefits under
SLF-MF Scheme to all Banks
Reserve Bank of India extended regulatory benefits announced
under the SLF-MF (Special Liquidity Facility for Mutual Funds) scheme to all
banks including those deploying their own resources. Earlier in the week, the
Reserve Bank had announced Rs 50,000-crore SLF-MF scheme to bailout the mutual
funds facing redemption pressure. The benefits can be availed without
consecutive funding from RBI.

develops Microwave Steriliser to disintegrate Coronavirus
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune has developed a
microwave sterilizer named as ‘ATULYA’ to disintegrate (COVID-19). The product
is cost effective solution, which can be operated in portable or fixed installations
with sterilisation time from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Approximate weight of the
system is 3 kg and it can be used for non-metallic objects only.

- Amid coronavirus outbreak, the Maharashtra government announced a free health insurance scheme to all its citizens. Under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, people in the state can avail of the benefits of free and cashless health insurance.
- The 11 empowered groups of of_cers created by the govt. to implement Covid-19 Containment measures in the country have been reconstituted. The reconstitution of the groups, first created on March 29 under the Disaster Management Act, was necessitated as some members either retired, appointed, or were transferred from posting.
- Prof. Shobhana Narasimhan from the Theoretical Sciences Unit (TSU) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scienti_c Research (JNCASR), has been elected as an International Honorary Member to the American Academy of Arts and Science (AAAS).
